Don't Get Lost in Heaven

Comprising an intimate group of small-scale paintings, many executed on copper—a medium central to Quintana’s latest explorations—the exhibition moves between portraiture, landscape, still life, and fleeting scenes of everyday life. The luminous, non-absorbent surface of copper allows for an unusual precision and chromatic depth, heightening the sense of intimacy and transience that runs throughout the works.

Drawing from his upbringing in the American Southwest, his Mexican heritage, and his family’s history of migration, Quintana explores memory, place, and belonging through images that move fluidly between lived experience and recollection. Beginning with drawing and often revisiting subjects across colored pencil, ink, gouache, and painting, his practice transforms quiet or overlooked moments into psychologically charged images in which memory remains deliberately unstable.

For the occasion, Quintana’s paintings will be presented in dialogue with a selection of Old Master works by Rembrandt, David Teniers, and Roelandt Savery, extending the exhibition’s engagement with the history of painting, material, and the longstanding tradition of working on copper and related supports.
