Eva Steynen Gallery is pleased to present the first solo exhibition in Belgium by Japanese artist Ken’ichiro Taniguchi (°1976).
For his Antwerp project, Taniguchi turns his attention to the traces of the city’s former fortifications. Inspired by aerial photographs revealing the surviving Brialmont forts and their surrounding structures, he follows their scattered remains across the city.
At each site, Taniguchi collects the shapes of Hecomi—the dents, cracks and depressions that have been a recurring motif in his practice—and transforms these traces into sculptural forms.
For the exhibition, an 'Antwerp Hecomi Map' connects the works to their locations throughout the city, inviting visitors to discover an unexpected layer of Antwerp’s history through Taniguchi’s distinctive practice.
Vernissage: 30 October, 18:00 - 21:00
This exhibition is endorsed by the 160 Years of Friendship between Japan and Belgium.
