Cohousing and collaboration Extra City and AAIR

Kunsthal Extra City will be relocating to AAIR’s main site this summer. Its offices will be located in a former Dominican monastery, located in Ploegstraat. The imposing church and the more intimate adjoining chapel, accessible via Provinciestraat, will be transformed into a challenging yet promising exhibition space.

The co-housing is the result of an ongoing relationship and collaboration between Kunsthal Extra City and AAIR which aims to transform the new site into a bastion for visual arts in Antwerp by bringing together exhibitions, residencies and other presentations.

AAIR’s ambition is to use the location to establish a permanent space for creation and development by local and international artists. The arrival of Kunsthal Extra City now also paves the way for the presentation of contemporary art. Both organizations are committed to creating a new anchor point for visual art in Antwerp at this shared location.

Emergency funds for culture after Corona

Funds are made available out of the Vlaamse Noodfonds to support the cultural sector during the restart after the corona measures. With these resources, the city of Antwerp wants to encourage artists, cultural- and arts organizations to set up projects that provide a high-quality and creative range of art, aimed at cultural participation and education, while focussing on the connecting power of culture and contributing to the revival of social life after the crisis.

The project should take place between July 1 and December 31, 2020.

Amount:
Maximum 5,000 euros for projects by individual artists.
Maximum 10,000 euros for projects of organizations with a legal personality.
Maximum 50,000 euros for projects of partnerships between different cultural organizations or crossed-sectors.

Procedure:
The application goes through an online application form on: https://cultuur.csjdatabank.be/.

Deadline:
15 September, 2020.

Important:
You can submit an application, even if the project file is not yet complete. For instance, if you haven't found a space yet. If you receive a positive assessment, the payment will be made as soon as the file is completed. The application has been made way more accessible and you can even submit a video instead of a written application.
