Special Newsletter: Lockdown 2

Antwerp Art

Editions, Publications And Digital Experiences

After the decision fell to put the country in lockdown for a second time, the Antwerp galleries, art spaces and museums have taken it on them yet again to provide you with online and order-in experiences. Therefore we've created a special newsletter that focuses specifically on affordable editions, publications and digital content.

With the holidays around the corner, this might also be a great opportunity to buy a gift for a close one, since physical shopping is restricted until at least December 16. Make sure to either click the images for more information or a direct link to a web shop, or find the contact information in the descriptions for further inquiries.

Singer Featherweight by LEAP/DETACH (Vitja Pauwels, Hendrik Lasure & Casper Van De Velde)
Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp

The album ‘Singer Featherweight’ is the result of the two-year research project ‘Artificial Extensions of Acoustics’. The trio of guitar, piano and drums wanted to explore the richness of their personal instruments in terms of timbre, time and form, regardless of any means and in interaction with one another. The result is a mix of improvisation and métier, of transience and deepening that is bound to get under your skin.
Published by Track Report.

Only for sale in the Library of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Mutsaardstraat 31, Antwerp, which is open for visitors.

Plano B, Lapa by Vijai Patchineelam
Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp

‘Plano B’ in the neighbourhood of Lapa, Rio de Janeiro, was a vinyl shop during the day and a cultural space over the weekend. Over the course of ten years it fomented an alternative music scene in Rio. Researcher Vijai Patchineelam has worked with founder Fernando Torres on his archive of over 300 live recorded shows that were held in the shop between 2004 and 2013, when the space closed. Their ongoing collaboration has so far resulted in the double album of these recordings as a way of communicating what ‘Plano B’ was and to leave some trace of it for the current experimental music scene in Rio and beyond.

Only for sale in the Library of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Mutsaardstraat 31, Antwerp, which is open for visitors.

Labyrinth by Nikolaas Demoen
vaerie_traan gallery

Labyrinth takes us on a walk through the spaces constructed within the pages of the book and visualises a world in which the exit can’t be found.
With the morphology of the house (windows, doors, steps and curtains) and the theatre (curtains, stage, perspective), a world is evoked in which nothing can serve as a point of reference. The experience is similar to surfing on the internet, scrolling through instagram, unfolding the gallery map of Art Brussels or shopping in a French supermarket.
All images in the book are woodcuts. Christophe Van Gerrewey has written a text that actually creates an imbroglio. The entire book is printed in letterpress.
