Lives and works in Leuven
Graduated from Sint-Lucas Antwerp in 2008, and took a postgraduate course at De Ateliers in Amsterdam
Triggered by ‘nature’ and ‘culture’, Sarah De Vos creates images that have a seductive beauty, while at the same time evoking critical reflections on our perception of reality. She paints with oil paint on wooden panels, glass or canvas, sealed with a transparent layer of epoxy, depending on her self-imposed game rules. In this way mirrors are created in which our own reflection inevitably plays a role in the perception of the elusive image, here and now.
She works in series creating an atmosphere like a music album is able to. The paintings are like the songs of a concept album. Some of the ‘songs’ are singles, others set an atmosphere. Some ‘songs’ are a precursor to the next album. They stand on their own but ask questions, communicate with each other with the space and with the viewer.
Sarah De Vos lives and works in Leuven. She received a master's degree in painting at Sint-Lucas Antwerp and followed a postgraduate degree at De Ateliers in Amsterdam. Her work has been included in the collections of UPC Duffel, de Nederlandsche Bank, FPS Foreign Affairs, Mu.ZEE and several private collections. Sarah was part of the Biennale of Painting in Deinze and the Triennial of Bruges and published her first monograph in 2021. She currently has a studio in Cas-co, Leuven.
Sarah De Vos is represented by Gallery Sofie Van de Velde.
