Call for an Alternative. Tribute to Joseph Beuys

During the Antwerp Art Weekend (13-16 May 2021), the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp organizes a short but powerful tribute to the German artist Joseph Beuys, who would have turned 100 years old on 12 May 2021.
The central focus is on Beuys' role as an artist-pedagogue and ecological activist, positions that make him extremely relevant today.

The tribute is an initiative of the research group ArchiVolt and includes an evening of discussions. We will also present unique Beuys documents from the private archive of Louwrien Wijers, who collaborated with the artist, and a broad overview of historical Beuys publications from the Collection for Research on Artists' Publications.

Programme

  • 13-16 May (12:00-18:00) – EXHIBITION ‘Beuys in Print '68-'86’
  • Saturday 15 May (17:00-20:00) – DISCUSSION EVENING with Louwrien Wijers, Egon Hanfstingl, Anny De Decker, Nico Dockx, Els Dietvorst, Bart Van Dijck and Johan Pas, among others

'Call for an Alternative' takes place in close cooperation with Het Bos and with the Coppejans Gallery, which is simultaneously presenting an exhibition of Beuys artworks and photo documents and plans performances, podcasts and film screenings are also planned.
