Cinema Session: Wood to Fire #5 — Solstice Edition

The sixth edition of Cinema Sessions is inviting you to join "Wood to Fire #5 — Solstice Edition", a collective performance and workshop led by artist Chloé Malcotti as part of the research process for her upcoming film project.

The day is structured in two parts:

:: Part 1 ::
16:00–18:30 — Collective performance/workshop
18:30–19:30 — Shared meal among participants.
Open to all people subjected to sexism. Please register for the workshop and shared meal HERE. Free participation and meal.

:: Part 2 ::
20:00–21:30 — Installation, echoes and traces of the collective performance remaining in the space.
Open to the public. Free entry

:: A collective performance, a time in which aesthetic experience will be felt, and created through muscles, sweat, the vibrations of our impacts, the tangible and vibrant presences of our moving bodies expressing and performing gestures of boxing — gestures of dodge, defence, and combat.

A space to collectively sense, explore, and address the imaginaries, sensations, narratives, emotions, and transformations that empowering practices such as boxing can generate when practiced by people subjected to sexism.

We will begin with an English boxing training session led by Myriam Nadim, followed by a moment of collective writing and sharing. Finally, we will nestle into rest together.

Diana Duta will join us and create a live sound recording during the workshop to produce a sensitive trace of the collective experience. This sound piece will be diffused in the space at the end of the session and will be accessible to the public.

No previous boxing experience is required.

These sessions are open to all people subjected to sexism, whether currently or in the past.

Please bring: very comfortable sports clothing, sneakers, gloves or hand wraps if you have them (otherwise they will be provided), a large towel, and water.

:: Developed collaboratively by Morpho and Out of Sight, 'Cinema Sessions' unfolds as a series of expanded film screenings hosted at Out of Sight. The programme is shaped by both organisations: Morpho through its residency programme, and Out of Sight through its Public Programme in collaboration with participating artists and in dialogue with the Study Circle Antwerp*. Together, they create a space where moving image intersects with artistic research, collective reflection, and shared experience.

*Study Circle Antwerp is a collective body that is being formed throughout the On Mobilisation. Towards Multivocal Collective Futures project (2026-2029).

:: More about the artists ::

Chloé Malcotti moves between visual arts and cinema, working with moving and still images, narration, and sound. Through the different media she engages with, her work seeks to make perceptible the relationships of vulnerability, exchange, and transcorporality between human and non-human bodies, revealing their co-dependencies, affinities, and complicities within situated places and space-times. Her artistic practice is closely intertwined with theoretical and practical research, moving back and forth through experimental creative processes.

Diana Duta works with sound in hypnotic ways, with a background in art and socio-cultural linguistics. In her research, she investigates inhabiting different subjectivities beyond brain-created narrative fictions. How can sound ecology reconfigure identity — who we are relationally? Guided by biosemiotics, cognitive science, poetry, and embodied voice practices, her work finds common ground with other sentient life forms around and within us.
