In her exhibition Duivengeduld, Svelte Thys explores desire as a slow and meaningful movement. Inspired by two pigeons in her garden, she focuses on the journey rather than the arrival, a quiet play of approach, anticipation, and time.
After periods in Antwerp and the region of her youth around Itegem and Duffel, Thys now turns to the intimacy of her immediate surroundings. Her work moves between humans and nature, where longing and calm come together.
Her paintings grow out of slowness and care. Ideas take time to develop and result in images that invite contemplation. By mixing oil paint with talc, she creates soft matte surfaces alongside glossy areas that create distance. Small works and larger canvases together form a poetic reflection on desire, time, and the beauty of taking an indirect path.
