Islands are characterised by a piece of land surrounded by water on all sides. The combination of solid and liquid matter means that a natural island never has fixed borders. In Eilandkwesties / Matières insulaires, Eva L’Hoest presents a video installation and sculptural work. The recordings of her new video work took place in Ostend, a border town where the sea and the continent meet. In this new video, it seems everything in the protagonist’s life seems to be working against her. Eilandkwesties / Matières insulaires maps an intimate cartography of our illusions for control and our gestures to remember.
