‘Everything is Personal’ responds to Lucinda Childs’ retrospective Nothing Personal at the CND Centre national de la danse in Paris in 2016; an entryway to the work of Cari Gonzalez-Casanova. A new piece made especially for the lecture will be shown together with other selected works. Exchange and discussion with the audience will be encouraged.
Cari Gonzalez-Casanova was born in Puerto Rico, grew up in New York and works and lives in France. Her practice is project based and can take many different forms, such as: participatory projects, publications, objects, collections, videos, drawing or talks. Modern myths such as the Bermuda Triangle, UFOs and Yetis, as well as utopian literature and architecture, do-it-yourself culture, activism, anarchism, military history (or war simulacra) and science fiction are just some of the subjects that inform her work. She maintains an ambiguous relationship with the art world and its mechanisms, alternatively operating in and outside of it depending on the project.
