Felix De Clercq

The exhibition presents 37 paintings from 2024 and 2025, all gouache on paper, in three formats.

Twenty-three works depict people the artist knows. Two are conjured up from memory. Three portray an actor from an Eric Rohmer film. One is a copy of a painting by David Teniers II. Three are based on motifs found while walking the city. Two are interiors, and three are still lives arranged by the artist.

Each motif is first developed through a pencil and ink drawing, with the composition reworked multiple times, erasing and adding elements to the pictorial space. The drawing is then traced onto another sheet of paper, forming the starting point of the painting.

Through this process, De Clercq offers a quiet yet intense contemplation on the act of seeing and being seen, while engaging with formal and historical questions within painting.
