Ignace Cami, Nick Geboers

Golem

Nick Geboers and Ignace Cami present a collection of anthropomorphic objects and photographs that evoke an animistic, spirited world. They guide us through a place in which objects are alive and staring back at the observer.

Nick Geboers (b. 1987, Balen, Belgium)
Nick Geboers explores the rich history of photography, shifting its purpose from functional to aesthetic. As an image-maker, he combines his own photographs with found imagery—scientific and descriptive artefacts that have lost their original context, becoming enigmatic relics. Geboers curates these images into intricate visual constellations, layering meanings and references that straddle the realms of art and science.

Moving fluidly between archaeology and authorship, his work interrogates the intersection of human emotion and sterile technology, creating a dialogue between photographic traditions and new narratives. His work has been exhibited in various solo and group exhibitions across Belgium, including at FOMU, Extra City, deSingel and De Warande, highlighting his unique approach to image-making.

Ignace Cami (b. 1986, Borgerhout, Belgium)
Ignace Cami’s interdisciplinary practice draws on folk culture to create objects, sculptures, installations and writings that activate the contemporary relevance of local histories. Trained as a printmaker and sculptor, Cami’s work evolves into dynamic, socially engaged projects.

In 2024, Cami was invited by Zuid. Boijmans Van Beuningen to develop a work that explores new connections between art, heritage and local communities. It led to his project A Place at the Table, for which he sat down at a large wooden table with 36 Rotterdam residents to make face jugs together. They were inspired by a specific type of jug in the collection of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen: the ‘pointed nose jug’, a medieval drinking vessel with a face and a pointed nose on its neck or belly.

By combining storytelling, performance, and collective engagement, Cami blurs the line between history and reinterpretation, fostering a space for connection and transformation. Cami’s works have been exhibited widely across Belgium and the Netherlands, including notable venues such as M HKA, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, ExtraCity and De Warande.
