Axel Vervoordt Gallery is pleased to present a captivating installation by South Korean artist Kimsooja, featuring her linen meta-paintings alongside bottaris. The works, originally showcased at the de Lakenhal Museum in Leiden during Thread Routes last year, explore themes of migration, identity, and the intersection of tradition and modernity. Kimsooja’s semi-transparent linen canvases blend the delicate beauty of painting with the tactile presence of fabric, creating a space where art and materiality intertwine. Her bottaris, traditional Korean wrapping cloths, echo these themes, reinforcing the connection between the body, memory, and cultural heritage. The installation invites viewers to step into a layered world of texture and light, where the boundaries between painting and sculpture blur. Kimsooja’s work is a meditation on the fluidity of identity and the journeys we all undertake.
More information about the installation will be provided soon.
