During spring 2023 wpZimmer (Antwerp), Baltic Art Center (Gotland), Studio ALTA (Prague) and Lavanderia a Vapore (Turin) have started collective journey, exploring potential of transnational cooperation as a way to actively participate in an international solidarity and emancipatory movement.
Within the ON MOBILISATION cooperation project we began processes of micro-community mobilisation, led by six artists: Danae Theodoridou, Ahilan Ratnamohan, Marika Smreková, Kalle Brolin, Elisabetta Consonni and Daniele Ninarello, facilitated by the partner organisations, together with two associated partners, ARIA (Antwerp) and GRASS (Gotland).
Geopolitical rapid changes have been asking from us to become more sensitive to mobilisation of micro-communities, while keep bringing up questions such as why, how and with whom these processes are happening today. The ON MOBILISATION project is interested in connecting to micro-communities that are emerging in order to reject, refuse and rise against violence and oppression. Micro-communities that grow into transnational alliances. Because we know that nobody is free, until everybody is free!
The aim of the ON MOBILISATION project is to ignite a process that connects and engages individuals to participate in positive change towards greater social justice and equality through cultural participation.
The project responds to the need for transnational creation and circulation of knowledge and capacity building. In our practices as residency and presentation spaces we do not use our nation states to define us. But rather we work transnationally, queering or diminishing the importance of national borders by placing the similarities and differences elsewhere than in national identity.
On Friday, February 28, wpZimmer in collaboration with Out of Sight is opening the final ON MOBILISATION group exhibition centered around artists work that amplifies the voices, languages, and sounds of bottom-up citizens’ mobilisation, while offering a space for reflection, discussion, and exchange. The artists that are part of the exhibition are: Siniša Ilić, The Agency of Singular Investigations, Zorka Wollny, Davide Tidoni, Kalle Brolin, Psychedelic Choir, and Danae Theodoridou.
Within the exhibition the timeline of the ON MOBILISATION project is presented as a video-interview archive with artists: Danae Theodoridou, Ahilan Ratnamohan, Marika Smreková, Kalle Brolin, Elisabetta Consonni and Daniele Ninarello, reflecting on their artistic processes within the project.
The ON MOBILISATION exhibition will be on view at Out of Sight, Somersstraat 31, 2018 Antwerp, from February 28th to March 30th. We would be delighted to have you join us to mark this important occasion. Please save the date in your calendars, and we look forward to welcoming you in Antwerp.
