On Thursday, March 19, FOMU will open four new exhibitions. Everyone is welcome to the festive opening night of Carrie Mae Weems, Families, Diane Severin Nguyen, and Tenderly There.

Programme:

8:00 pm: Opening speeches by Lien Van de Kelder, Alderman for Culture of Antwerp, and FOMU Director Maartje Stubbe
8:30 pm: Exhibitions open to the public
9:30 pm: Live performance Blue Giants

Continuous until 11:00 pm: Drinks and bites at the FOMU café

CARRIE MAE WEEMS - THE HEART OF THE MATTER
The Heart of the Matter is the first retrospective of influential American artist Carrie Mae Weems (1953) in Belgium. Through her incisive photographic works and video installations she explores themes of race, gender, power and memory.

FAMILIES
Who do you consider to be your family? And how do you record your personal history? We all use photography to sketch an image of our family and pass on stories to future generations. For the exhibition ‘Families’ we're diving into the FOMU collection in search of family photos.

DIANE SEVERIN NGUYEN - IF REVOLUTION IS A SICKNESS
Diane Severin Nguyen is an American artist with Vietnamese roots. In her work she explores the inextricable relationship between popular culture and politics. Her work spans video, performance and photography, with striking images that are as seductive as they are unsettling.

TENDERLY THERE BY TASHATTOT COLLECTIVE
Tenderly There shows how artists from the SWANA region (South-West Asia and North Africa) explore, commemorate, and affirm their experiences with queer intimacy. The exhibition is curated by Tashattot, a cultural collective based in Brussels that supports and brings together artists and cultural practitioners from the SWANA region who have been displaced or are currently navigating life in Europe.
