Travel is central to Adriaan Rees's artistic practice. He constantly commutes between his studios in Amsterdam and Jingdezhen (China). The ever-changing context in which he works — both in terms of nature and culture — generates stories, anecdotes and philosophical reflections that are reflected in the work he creates in both places. Symbols mutate with time and space, evoking echoes of figurative historiography: what has meaning today may sound different tomorrow.
