Lydia Hannah Debeer lets us wander through undefined spaces between the present and what is yet to come, between changes on a threshold. Just like the space between talking and hearing is bridged by the speaking body, her work reflects the underlying, insurmountable emotional distance to someone else. It is a transitional position the artist expresses by fully immersing the viewer in specific situations and spaces. Her journey embraces the complexity of existence, intertwined with the physical and emotional landscape, and invites the audience to explore their own internal landscapes. There is no puzzle to solve here, but a request to feel, experience and connect. It is a representation of the artist seeking to activate bridges between different media, and between us and the world around us.
