_Philip Aguirre y Otegui (°1961) is the sculptor of stillness. He prefers to make subtly stylised sculptures, which can nevertheless be robust and unruly. They are rooted in tradition and at the same time resolutely contemporary. Aguirre is sensitive to themes such as injustice and persecution; his work - which also consists of etchings and woodcuts - is a reserved plea for humanism and human dignity. (E.R.)
_Juan Avila (°1978, Colombia)
Most of Avila’s work starts from the observation and reinterpretation of nature and his surroundings.
He wants to create a mental and physical space where he explores time and memory. The canvas becomes a ludic scenario where anything is possible.
