Jeanne Penjan Lassus

Sounding Shores, Sounding Depths

Trinkets of times, curios that surface. A trace of everyday life, once. A fragment slipped out of time. The ground, layers of sedimented time. The river, a sea of timelessness. Objects uncovered by currents eroding the river shore and bed. Time suddenly exposed, layers muddled up. An attentive wandering pair of eyes on the shore, steels a bit of time from the tide.

The river holds everything, remembers everything.

‘Sounding shores, sounding depths’ is an invitation to come together to sound the river, to imagine its depths. Connecting their research on the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok with the Schelde in Antwerp, Lassus will be presenting part of their video installation work a jewel in the mud, along with elements of their ongoing research and meandering in Antwerp. The session will be an invitation to read objects, fragments and texts together and reflect on questions of research, archive and memory, recentering the sensorial, speculative and tactile.

Jeanne Penjan Lassus is an artist and filmmaker based in Bangkok, and currently in residency at MORPHO in Antwerp. Their practice explores and experiments with liminality and transformation. Her works draw from reflections on sensory perception and porosity of spaces and bodies. Enquiring how we—humans and other beings—sense and make sense of our environments, Lassus’ practice focuses on how our perceptions shape our experiences, languages, and the way we live, feel, move and extend into space. Researching situated and embodied knowledge, Lassus is interested in the intimate and interdependent relationships we form with our environments and the ways in which these knowledges acts as forms of resistance.

Lassus’ work has been shown in various festivals and art spaces, most notably TONO Festival Mexico (2026); Ghost 2568—a video and performance arts series (2025); the 7th Bangkok Experimental Film Festival (2025); EXiS Experimental Film and Video Festival in Seoul (2025); the Alserkal Arts Foundation Dubai (2022); and Bangkok Arts and Culture Center (2019). They participated in the Ocean Fellowship 2020, organized by TBA21, and have received the Alserkal Art Foundation Research Grant 2020 and the Bangkok Art and Culture Center’ Early Years Projects Residency Grant 2019.

Developed collaboratively by Morpho and Out of Sight, Cinema Sessions unfolds as a series of expanded film screenings and cinematic events hosted at Out of Sight. The programme is shaped by both organisations: Morpho through its residency programme, and Out of Sight through its Public Programme in collaboration with participating artists and since 2026 in dialogue with the Study Circle Antwerp*. Together, they create a space where moving image intersects with artistic research, collective reflection, and shared experience.

*Study Circle Antwerp is a collective body that is being formed throughout the On Mobilisation. Towards Multivocal Collective Futures project (2026-2029), co-funded by the European Union.

:: Co-funded by the European Union (Creative Europe Programme) and Flanders — State of the Art / Department of Culture, Youth and Media.
