The Jungian idea “The brighter the light, the darker the shadow” suggests as personal growth, consciousness, or virtue expands (the light), the hidden and unconscious aspects of the self (the shadow) deepen as well. Greatness is inseparable from darkness. To become whole, one must confront what lies in shadow.
