With her new project [Walen] bourgeois buiten, Sandrine Morgante (b. 1986 in Liège, lives and works in Brussels) approaches political influence and historiography using a fragment of Belgian history. Besides the well-known slogan “Walen buiten”, Morgante takes an interest in the lesser-known slogan “Bourgeois buiten”, which places the language conflict within a class struggle. Through printed matter, drawings and a publication, Morgante reflects on how political ideas are communicated and disseminated. This exhibition is not taking place in a Belgian election year for nothing!
The works of Sandrine Morgante, which deal with writing and speech, are visual transcriptions of dialogues from interviews, audio recordings of nocturnal thoughts, or memories of spontaneous conversations. Morgante studied at La Cambre in Brussels and at HISK in Ghent. Since 2022, Morgante has been represented by Galerie Nadja Vilenne. Her work has been shown in Belgian art venues like IKOB, WIELS, Art Contest, Boverie and SPACE.
