Gallery Sofie Van de Velde is pleased to announce “Golden is a surface colour”, the third solo exhibition by Willy De Sauter. The title, drawn from a quote by Ludwig Wittgenstein, reflects De Sauter’s exploration of perception, materiality, and the boundaries of painting.

Few painters, like De Sauter, succeed in pushing painting beyond itself while remaining faithful to its most traditional gesture. His works act as architectural sculptures and choreographies of space, continually renegotiating their relation to us and their environment.

The exhibition brings together recent works and key pieces from earlier periods.
