Clara Spilliaert

Hairy Tale

After moving from Japan to Belgium in 2009, Clara Spilliaert (1993, Tokyo) studied at the LUCA School of Arts in Ghent, where she still lives and works today. Her works often originate from an observation of cultural phenomena and testify an interest in history, mythology, nature, and sexuality. In her first solo exhibition in Belgium, Spilliaert presents an in situ installation in Lichtekooi Artspace in which she examines the analogy between our dealings with our body hair and gardens.

The action "Wall of Hair / Make your own Garden" will take place during the opening on September 16. By participating in the hair removal session visitors will contribute to the creation of the “Wall of Hair”. They will be able to pick up their share of the work at the end of the exhibition.
