Jef Gysen

Jef Gysens’ recent paintings give way to full three-dimensionality, with sculptural forms derived from a scale model that he has built in his studio, which he subsequently disrupts and reconstructs in a choreography entirely of his own. The artist paints the content of that conceived structure, stripped of history, in a way that translates the space into architectural visual distortion that optimally support the concept of openness and transitions. The fiction completes the architecture in a grandiose compelling view. A fictional world that is both concrete and abstract does not avoid the recognizable and the familiar, but falls outside of time.
