Hanne De Backer is a Belgian baritone saxophonist who pushes her instrument to the outer edges of its possibilities. From hyperfragile, intimate breath to sweeping solos in which she seems to break through the limits of the baritone, she plays the heavyweight of the saxophone family as if it were an extension of her own body. She has played with resounding names such as Hamid Drake, Jakob Bro, Signe Emmeluth, Paal Nilssen-Love and The Ex, and once travelled the entire Belgian coastline while improvising, accompanied by a camel.
