Naar aanleiding van haar 50-jarig bestaan knoopt het Frans Masereel Centrum opnieuw aan bij een belangrijke traditie die teruggaat op een voorstel van Jef Geys om een map uit te brengen met werk van vier kunstenaars, en waarvoor hij in 1972 o.m. Marcel Broodthaers uitnodigde.
Vijftig jaar later nodigen we opnieuw vier hedendaagse kunstenaars uit om gloednieuw werk te ontwikkelen in de gespecialiseerde ateliers van het Frans Masereel Centrum. Hibernus#1 is de pilooteditie van dit nieuwe, tweejaarlijkse initiatief en brengt in 2022 werk samen van Pélagie Gbaguidi, Emmanuelle Quertain, Océane Vallot en Joris Van de Moortel.
Elk van de vier creaties is gedacht als een autonoom artistiek project, met ruimte voor onvoorziene ontwikkelingen en oorspronkelijke ideeën. Dit resulteerde in stuk voor stuk verdiepende voorstellen die uitdrukkelijk vertrekken vanuit een artistieke urgentie en een nieuwsgierigheid voor wat nog niet bestaat.
De kunstwerken zijn gerealiseerd in een zeer beperkte oplage en zijn vanaf midden februari beschikbaar in de bookshop.

On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, the Frans Masereel Centrum is reconnecting with an important tradition that goes back to a proposal by Jef Geys to publish a folder with work by four artists, for which he invited Marcel Broodthaers in 1972, among others.
Fifty years later, we invite four contemporary artists to develop brand new work in the specialized studios of the Frans Masereel Centrum. Hibernus#1 is the pilot edition of this new, biennial initiative, bringing together in 2022 work by Pélagie Gbaguidi, Emmanuelle Quertain, Océane Vallot and Joris Van de Moortel.
Each of their creations is conceived as an autonomous artistic project, with room for unforeseen developments and original ideas. Each of them resulting in in-depth proposals that emphatically start from an artistic urgency and a curiosity for that which does not yet exist.
The works of art have been realized in a very limited edition and will be available in the bookshop from mid-February.
