‘Kikkerkoor’ is a visual, audio and interactive work by artist Justine Grillet that remains permanently active and will be integrated into future exhibitions at AAIMACHINE: a series of doorbells serving as a permanent invitation to improvisation at AAIMACHINE’s front door.

Through Grillet’s intervention, AAIMACHINE, which has no doorbell of its own, gains a new artistic form of accessibility. A large array of doorbells is installed on the exterior of AAIMACHINE. The accompanying speakers, filled with compiled and diverse sounds from a frog world collected especially for this VOLUME, are given a permanent place inside the space. As a result, the doorbells are transformed from simple ‘announcement objects’ into instruments, giving every visitor the chance to become a composer of a fleeting symphony. In the empty interior space, the speakers function as invisible singers, creating a vibrant soundscape with every activation. This dynamic invites the viewer not only to listen, but also to participate in a constantly changing improvisation.

In a world dominated by digital connections, Grillet invites us to listen anew to our physical surroundings, to take part in an everyday symphony, and to discover poetry in the simple act of knocking and frogs.

The installation will remain at AAIMACHINE and will therefore enter into conversation with the forthcoming VOLUMES, in which other artists may respond to it. This ongoing interaction between the installation and the changing artistic context playfully explores the boundaries of artistic practice and everyday objects and actions, such as the doorbell.
