The exhibition brings together work made by 5 young artists and gallery artist Herman Van Ingelgem. Van Ingelgem concerns “an architecture of the things that surround us, the stuff that our daily lives is made of, that has as much to do with our physical relation to the world as with its economies and strategies and that we are only marginally aware of” (N.Vrijbrief).
Sina Hensel's delicate paintings are made with pigments based on algae developed in her lab because she refuses to work with synthetic materials destroying nature. The fading colours are part of the work.
Hannah Mevis works with interaction between people and the spaces where she exposes. Inspired by the bas-relief in the gallery chimney - a 18th century shepherdess bearing a fruitbasket - Hannah organises a minibar with selfmade liquors in the chimney in honor of the pictured girl.
Thomas Swinkels is interested in transiency: he prints his photographic images using a direct thermal printer, the image appears in strip-like fragments resulting from the printer overheating. His work also includes found-object sculpture: a neo-minimal row of busted-open safes, found by dredging waterways with a magnet will be shown in the exhibition.
Ayrton Embé visits building sites on a weekly basis and is interested in technics and materials used by construction workers. These observations result in works build up with materials found on these sites often using concrete and metal.
Tim Breukers confronts us with a collapsing world: the decay and the decline of all that man creates, fragmentised in small and porcelain sculptures and bigger concrete works – that is what artist Tim Breukers shows us in this ruthless scenario of definitive disappearance in an idiosyncratic way, but not without relativisation.
