TACK TICK Mechelen opens its doors and co-hosts Contour Biennale 11 on Saturday September 5 from 1 to 6 PM.

TACK TICK, the new contemporary art space developed by TICK TACK (Antwerp), co-hosts Contour Biennale 11, 'The Eyes of the Heart and the Soul of the World', alongside Kunsthal Mechelen. Curated by Sofia Lemos, the biennale runs from 5 September to 1 November 2026 across heritage and cultural sites in Mechelen. The Biennale is one of only two biennales in Europe dedicated entirely to moving image, and has grown into an internationally acclaimed platform for artists working in film, video and time-based media.

Housed in the former Salle de Ventes par Notaires (1882), a Neoclassical auction house in the city centre of Mechelen, TACK TICK is TICK TACK's first permanent extension outside Antwerp, and makes TT the first non-profit art institution in Belgium to operate two separate, permanent locations in two cities. Rather than consolidating around a single address, TICK TACK / TACK TICK tests what a contemporary art institution can be when it operates as a network of shared spaces across cities. It continues a hybrid way of working outside the traditional models, built on collaboration, shared infrastructure, shared audiences and shared ambition.

For the opening of the new space, Contour Biennale and TACK TICK present two site-specific video installations, by Gabriel Abrantes (1984, USA) and by Claudia Pagès Rabal (1990, Spain).

Together, TACK TICK and Kunsthal Mechelen anchor Contour Biennale 11's presence in the city, alongside route locations dmvA architecten, De Noker and Stiltetuin Aartsbisschoppelijk Paleis.
