Elien Verschueren (°1989, Belgium) is an Antwerp-based visual artist & MORPHO resident at Broedplaats Borrewater. She enjoys working with materials she used as a child, such as coloured pencils, markers and air-dry clay. Her deep familiarity with these materials encourages an intuitive exploration in the process of creating images.
Curious about family members she never met she searches for ways to connect with her ancestors. 'Oudouders' is her first solo show and consists of visual work about predecessors and blood ties, an audio meditation with a visualisation exercise in various mother tongues and an open invitation for visitors to give a place to their ancestors.
On Thursday 28 August, the four-day exhibition will be inaugurated during 'The Field Within', a meditation session & workshop as a relaxed and atmospheric opening of the exhibition at the Monastery garden, entrance via Ploegstraat 25. The session starts at 10:30 and ends at 12:00. There is room for 15 people, make sure to register here. Wear comfy clothes, bring something to sit on (like a yoga mat or a beach towel) & headphones. At 13:00, the exhibition will open to the public.
