September in the Monastery Garden

Every last weekend of the summer months of June, July, August and September, our green monastery garden comes to life. Together with Kunsthal Extra City and many other partners, we put together a diverse programme of performances, workshops, film screenings, brunches, concerts, artist talks, ... You can read the programme for September below.

☼ 23.09.2022 ☼
19:00 • Take Over, Gigs and Giggles Garden Party (Part 1)
Take Over is a collective for and by young artists. They showcase young talent in the form of music and performance, starting out with the Sunset String Quartet and the dance piece Puck is by choreographer Ella-My Blomdahl in collaboration with dancer Luca Tomaselli. Followed by a solo performance by Verena Rizzo, an Italian musician and composer.

21:00 • New Root Canal, Summer Sessions
New Root Canal is Rufus Mich, visual artist and musician living in Antwerp. His one-man band combines soft synth drones with sizzling acid/krautrock electropunk songs, at once swinging and psychedelic.

22:30 • Take Over, Gigs and Giggles Garden Party (Part 2)
Dancing, DJ, drinks, the works!

☼ 24.09.2022 ☼
11:00 • Baya Collective, Candied Conversations
Baya Collective invites you to join them at a rich table where stories are woven into meals. (Until 14:00)

14:00 • Günbike Erdemir, Antwerp Folktales
Günbike Erdemir leads a drawing workshop inspired by the urban legends of Antwerp and beyond. We will read four stories from which you will draw a symbolic place, a magical object or a mythical character. Bring at least one piece of old clothing that we can cut up and use as a background.

15:00 • Sadrie Alves & Hussein Shikha, Tales of Symbologies
In this workshop, visual artists Sadrie Alves & Hussein Shikha show you how to practice the ancient crafts and symbols of tapestry and woodblock. (Until 18:00)

18:00 • Ignace Cami, I’ll explain everything to the geese
Trained as a printmaker and sculptor, Ignace Cami is evolving towards more active and social ways of disseminating his projects. In this happening, based on elements of a Belgian folk tradition, the artist pushes the boundaries of performativity and storytelling. With open bar. (Until 20:00)

20:00 • Lichtekooi, Twhylight, an evening with Michael Curran & Duelle
Lichtekooi is an art space in Antwerp that opened its doors in the spring of 2021. Artist Michael Curran previously made a sound piece with all the correspondence regarding the name of the space, an old Dutch word for a woman of light morals. For this evening, he proposes a screening of Jacques Rivette's 1976 Duelle, which similarly explores notions of ladies of the night and ladies of the light.

☼ 25.09.2022 ☼
12:00 • Jeannette Slütter, The Residency Tour
Jeannette Slütter gives an alternative tour of the former monastery. Instead of going into its historical background, she will point out objects lying around and other signs that tell something about life and work in an artist residency.

14:00 • Elif Korkmaz, Blind Date to Create
During her creative workshop, Elif Korkmaz invites you to explore the sensory experiences of different materials and how we can learn to see through each other's eyes. Intended for blind and visually impaired people, open to everyone.
