UIT HET DONKER will take you for the fifth time on an audio-visual adventure through the dark night.
This art trail through the woods will guide you along many magically illuminated paths and roads in a loop which starts and ends at the Winter bar. You may expect five large-scale, breath-taking light and sound installations on the route, by Anouk Kruithof, Gabey Tjon a Tham, Anne van de Star, Philip Vermeulen and WIThWIT. They all enter into relationship with the nature and architecture of de Hoge Rielen.
UIT HET DONKER promises to be an unforgettable experience.
In the middle of the walk, you’ll find our café Halfweg, with heart-warming drinks and foot-warming music.

A colourful sculpture, built from wooden constructions and grids, form the structures of a city. Parts turn round and into each other. Little moving lights make silhouettes visible on the wall. Sound takes us in and out of the rooms. The journey stops in a room.

Universal Tongue
2019
Over 8800 dance-videos were collected from Youtube and Instagram with a team of 50 researchers located all over the world. Each researcher received a symbolic fee of 1 euro per delivered video. Researchers also submitted small texts about the dance-styles being represented in their found videos. The total length of all this found video material was 250 hours. After the rough-cut a total length of 80 hours remained.
The final video installation consists of 8 channels (dimensions variable) with 8 films that have a duration of 4 hours each: A dance-conclave through the jungle of the internet. Universal Tongue shows 32 hours of completely mixed mesmerizing video presenting 1000 dance-styles from all over the world!

Gabey transforms spaces into sensory and immersive environments through kinetic machines, light, and sound. Two installations of Tjon a Tham are being shown during UIT HET DONKER.
‘The Monads’ – inspired by the sound of the wind rustling through the trees – is a kinetic sound installation, composed with specially designed Lesliespeakers.
In ‘Red Horizon’ you will see a field of double pendulums in a dark space that look like fireflies in the night.

The work ‘Slue’ by Philip Vermeulen en Mischa Daams will extend between the trees of de Hoge Rielen. It’s at the same time elusive and beautiful, but also frightening and scary because of the place and the sound. It’s a thin line between fascination and fear for the cable to snap. Exciting!
