New season, new members

September traditionally marks the start of a new art season in Antwerp. After the summer break, galleries and art spaces reopen with new exhibitions and events. This season, we are delighted to welcome five new members: Follie, Galerie Zwart Huis, TACK TICK, NQ Gallery and AAIMACHINE. Discover their diverse programmes and let yourself be inspired by these new additions to Antwerp’s vibrant art scene.

September luidt traditioneel een nieuw kunstseizoen in Antwerpen in. Na de zomersluiting openen galerieën en kunstruimtes opnieuw hun deuren met nieuwe tentoonstellingen en evenementen. Dit seizoen verwelkomen we met plezier vijf nieuwe leden: Follie, Galerie Zwart Huis, TACK TICK, NQ Gallery en AAIMACHINE. Ontdek hun uiteenlopende programma’s en laat je inspireren door deze nieuwe aanwinsten voor de bruisende Antwerpse kunstscene.

We are excited to introduce Follie, space for the ephemeral, an artist-run initiative based in the historic Peperkoekenhuisje in Park Den Brandt, Antwerp. Follie creates space for temporary artistic practices, bringing contemporary art into dialogue with nature, heritage and everyday life through ephemeral interventions, live events, artist residencies and participatory moments.

The Peperkoekenhuisje is both an experimental art space and a welcoming meeting place in the park, offering coffee, natural wine, craft beer and artisanal ice cream alongside its artistic program.

We zijn verheugd om Follie, ruimte voor het efemere te introduceren, een artist-run initiatief gevestigd in het historische Peperkoekenhuisje in Park Den Brandt, Antwerpen. Follie creëert ruimte voor tijdelijke artistieke praktijken en brengt hedendaagse kunst in dialoog met natuur, erfgoed en het dagelijkse leven via tijdelijke interventies, live-evenementen, artist residencies en participatieve momenten.

Het Peperkoekenhuisje is zowel een experimentele plek voor hedendaagse kunst als een warme ontmoetingsplek in het park, waar je naast het artistieke programma terechtkan voor koffie, natuurwijn, craft beer en ambachtelijk ijs.

Galerie Zwart Huis opens a new space in Antwerp, marking both the gallery’s 25th anniversary and a new chapter in its activities. Opening on 5 September in Nieuw Zuid, the new venue will inaugurate its program with the first solo exhibition in Antwerp by Belgian artist Nils Verkaeren, while serving as a second base for exhibitions, projects and collaborations.

Together with Schönfeld Gallery, Galerie Zwart Huis will occupy a shared building, with both galleries retaining their own identity and exhibition programme, connected through a common meeting space.

Galerie Zwart Huis opent een nieuwe ruimte in Antwerpen, wat zowel het 25-jarig bestaan van de galerie als een nieuw hoofdstuk in haar werking markeert. De nieuwe locatie in Nieuw Zuid opent op 5 september met de eerste solotentoonstelling in Antwerpen van de Belgische kunstenaar Nils Verkaeren en wordt een tweede uitvalsbasis voor tentoonstellingen, projecten en samenwerkingen.

Samen met Schönfeld Gallery neemt Galerie Zwart Huis een gedeeld gebouw in gebruik, waarbij beide galeries hun eigen identiteit en tentoonstellingsprogramma behouden en verbonden worden door een gemeenschappelijke ontmoetingsruimte.

Housed in the former Salle de Ventes par Notaires (1882), a Neoclassical auction house in the city centre of Mechelen, TACK TICK is TICK TACK's first permanent extension outside Antwerp, and makes TICK TACK the first non-profit art institution in Belgium to operate two separate, permanent locations in two cities. Rather than consolidating around a single address, TICK TACK tests what a contemporary art institution can be when it operates as a network of shared spaces across cities.

It continues a hybrid way of working outside the traditional models, built on collaboration, shared infrastructure, shared audiences and shared ambition.

Gevestigd in het voormalige Salle de Ventes par Notaires (1882), een neoklassiek veilinghuis in het centrum van Mechelen, is TACK TICK de eerste permanente uitbreiding van TICK TACK buiten Antwerpen. Hiermee wordt TICK TACK de eerste non-profit kunstinstelling in België die twee afzonderlijke, permanente locaties in twee steden uitbaat. In plaats van zich te concentreren rond één adres, onderzoekt TICK TACK wat een hedendaagse kunstinstelling kan zijn wanneer ze opereert als een netwerk van gedeelde ruimtes verspreid over verschillende steden.

TICK TACK zet daarmee een hybride manier van werken voort die zich buiten de traditionele modellen beweegt en gebaseerd is op samenwerking, gedeelde infrastructuur, gedeelde publieken en een gedeelde ambitie.

Welcoming NQ Gallery as a new member of Antwerp Art, just as the gallery enters its fifth anniversary year. Founded in 2021 by Niqui van Olphen, NQ Gallery brings together two complementary artistic directions: sculpture and three-dimensional practices on one side, and painting and drawing on the other.

With a particular focus on ceramics, materiality, and the relationship between artworks, space and audiences, the gallery presents both figurative and abstract artists.

We verwelkomen NQ Gallery als nieuw lid van Antwerp Art, net nu de galerie haar vijfde jubileumjaar ingaat. NQ Gallery werd in 2021 opgericht door Niqui van Olphen en brengt twee complementaire artistieke richtingen samen: sculptuur en driedimensionale praktijken enerzijds, en schilder- en tekenkunst anderzijds.

Met bijzondere aandacht voor keramiek, materialiteit en de relatie tussen kunstwerken, ruimte en publiek, presenteert de galerie zowel figuratieve als abstracte kunstenaars.

After several participations in Antwerp Art Weekend as part of the OFF Program, AAIMACHINE is now also a member of Antwerp Art.

AAIMACHINE is an independent art space in Antwerp-Berchem, with a display window on the lively shopping street of Statiestraat. As a non-profit organisation led by artists Johanna Trudzinski and Lieven Segers, and journalist Frank Olbrechts, AAIMACHINE curates a programme free from commercial motives, focusing on experimentation and collaborative exchange.

Na verschillende deelnames aan het Antwerp Art Weekend als onderdeel van het OFF Program, is AAIMACHINE nu ook lid van Antwerp Art.

AAIMACHINE is een onafhankelijke kunstruimte in Antwerpen-Berchem, met een etalage aan de levendige Statiestraat. Als non-profitorganisatie, geleid door kunstenaars Johanna Trudzinski en Lieven Segers en journalist Frank Olbrechts, stelt AAIMACHINE een programma samen zonder commerciële motieven, met de focus op experiment en samenwerking.
